edu|shorts was founded by Athanasios Tsapelis and Panos Kapiris in 2015. Athanasios has been teaching EFL to adults and teenagers in Greece since 2000. He has been a board member of the Kos Island Cinephile Film Society since 2008 and is also actively involved in teacher training and adult learning, organizing lectures and workshops focusing on media content analysis or short films. Panos has been working as a primary teacher since 2008 and is excited about the use of educational technologies and short films in the classroom. He also designs educational websites; his latest project e-symmathitis, is a platform featuring suggested educational tools, activities and resources.
edu|shorts aims to present short and concise educational activities which can be easily adapted to satisfy a diverse range of educational needs. edu|shorts is bilingual: all texts are written both in Greek and English to cater for the needs of a national and international audience. Browsing films is facilitated by synopses or themes. Educational activities are tagged according to suggested teaching strategies. We have found short films to be a unique way to deal with issues of identity and self-awareness because they tell a story in a few minutes with an easily discernible set of ideas and values. The educational activities of edu|shorts are used in school settings or as part of training programs for adults and can be facilitated by teachers, adult or lifelong trainers, psychotherapists, social workers or group facilitators. |
